Nordausques
In the past, you paid to cross the Hem here on a ferry, then from 1178, you traversed by bridge.The 18th century gables (RN43) of the Welle manor (tower 15th century) are impressive.
The church has kept its 17th century tower with a sun dial, surmounted by an octagonal stone arrow. Go along the river Hem, fish for gudgeon, then follow the local path to the avenue of mulberry bushes (milling of silk in the 19th century). |
